àAfter€the€incident,€Mr.€¢Gulston£ððs€car,€which€hadÏbeen€parked€in€front€of€the€apartment,€was€found€oneÏblock€away.€€Ms.€¢Gulston£€testified€that€the€men€had€takenÏMr.€¢Gulston£ððs€car€keys€and€her€house€keys€when€they€leftÏto€go€to€Jeannette€¢Gulston£ððs€house.€€In€addition,€a€.25Ïcaliber€pistol€belonging€to€Ms.€¢Gulston£€was€stolen.Ð àOfficers€who€responded€to€6508€Cricket€place,ÏJeannette€¢Gulston£ððs€house,€discovered€Mr.€¢Gulston£ððs€bodyÏin€the€basement.€€Mr.€¢Gulston£€was€lying€on€his€stomachÏwith€a€pillow€over€his€head,€concealing€a€gunshot€woundÏto€the€head.€€At€trial,€the€State€introduced€evidenceÏthat€the€bullet€recovered€from€Mr.€¢Gulston£ððs€body€wasÏfired€from€a€.¢9mm£€pistol.Ð àJeanette€¢Gulston£€testified€regarding€the€conditionÏof€her€house.€€She€was€out€of€town€at€the€time€of€theÏshooting€and€returned€to€find€her€house€ransacked€and€herÏpreviously€locked€safe€unlocked.€€The€contents€of€theÏsafe,€including€certificates€of€deposit,€$10,000.00€inÏsavings€bonds,€and€approximately€$4,000.00€in€cash,€wereÏmissing.Ð Ð Ð  ÐÌà8  àà ` àOn€2€August€1993,€at€approximately€7:00€p.m.,Ïappellant€was€arrested€after€officers€stopped€the€car€inÐ ˆ,Ø'3 Ðwhich€he€was€a€passenger.€€Appellant€was€actingÏstrangely;€one€officer€testified€that€appellant€seemedÏœð ðvery€hyper.ðð€€Officers€took€appellant€to€the€policeÐ @ Ðstation€and€placed€him€in€an€interview€room.€€DetectiveÏKenneth€¢OððBerry£€read€appellant€his€rights€and€hadÏappellant€sign€a€waiver€form.€€Appellant€wrote€on€theÏform€that€he€had€used€PCP€and€weed€(marijuana).€€ShortlyÏthereafter,€Detective€Brian€Hickey€called€DetectiveÏ¢OððBerry£,€who€had€been€questioning€appellant,€out€of€theÏinterview€room€and€told€him€that€his€supervisor€wanted€toÏstop€questioning€appellant€until€he€slept€off€the€effectsÏof€the€PCP.€€Detective€¢OððBerry£€testified€that€appellantÏbecame€loud€and€boisterous€several€times€while€in€theÏinterview€room.Ð Ð Ð  ÐÌà8  àà ` àDetective€Andrew€¢Rostich£€testified€that€he€was€inÏthe€interview€room€next€to€appellantððs€the€night€of€2ÏAugust€1993.€€Detective€¢Rostich£€heard€appellant€causingÏseveral€disturbances.€€At€one€point,€the€detectiveÏremoved€all€the€chairs€in€appellantððs€interview€roomÏbecause€appellant€had€been€throwing€them€around.€€Later,Ïat€approximately€2:15€a.m.€on€3€August,€Detective€¢Rostich£Ïhear€[sic]€another€disturbance.€€He€discovered€appellantÏtrying€to€climb€into€the€ceiling€panels€from€the€table€inÏthe€interview€room.€€The€detective€pulled€appellant€down€Ïfrom€the€table.€€As€he€was€falling,€appellant€hit€hisÏhead€on€the€table,€thereby€injuring€his€left€eye.Ð àAs€the€summary€of€facts€demonstrates,€before€trial€JonesÏunsuccessfully€sought€to€suppress€his€confession.€€At€trial,€theÏdetectives€recounted€that,€in€the€period€following€Jonesððs€arrest,Ïhe€was€under€the€influence€of€PCP€and€therefore€the€detectives€didÏnot€question€him€immediately,€because€they€wanted€to€ð ðallow€theÐ Ð $ Ðeffects€of€the€PCP€to€wear€off.ðð€€Moreover,€because€of€the€drugs,Ð `"°& Ðthey€described€Jones€as€ð ðagitated,ðð€ð ðincoherent,ðð€ð ðboisterous,ðð€andÐ ð#@( Ðð
